In NSW, Class 2 buildings are a key focus of the Design and Building Practitioners (DBP) Act 2020, which was introduced to improve construction quality and restore trust in the building industry. These types of buildings have been the subject of public concern due to past structural issues in high-rise apartments.

Class 2 Buildings

Class 2 buildings are buildings that contain two or more sole-occupancy units (i.e. apartments or units) stacked on top of each other — typically multi-storey residential buildings.  Examples include: Apartment complexes, Mixed-use buildings with residential units above commercial spaces and Duplexes (if one unit is above the other
